Gordon Nicholson is a senior vice president and portfolio manager for institutional portfolios, including absolute return, risk mitigation strategies, and liquid alternatives, serving public pensions, endowments, corporate pensions, and private banks at Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions (FTIS). Mr. Nicholson is a member of the FTIS Alternatives Investment Committee.
He joined K2 Advisors, an alternative investment firm that merged with Franklin Templeton Investment Solutions, in 2017. Prior to joining K2 Advisors, Mr. Nicholson was global head of alternative solutions at Citi Private Bank from 2013 through 2017. While at Citi, he managed nearly 40 portfolios for institutions, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals; led a team of portfolio managers and analysts; and served as chair of the alternative investment committee. In 2012, he held a role in enterprise risk management at Rimrock Capital Management, supporting growth and development efforts for an institutional fixed income relative value hedge strategy.
Mr. Nicholson’s hedge fund experience began in 2005 at Kenmar–Olympia Group, where his roles evolved from analyst to sector head to portfolio manager and investment committee member. Prior to that, he served as manager of credit and pricing at Bombardier Structured Credit and as a senior fixed income analyst at Athena Capital (Thinking Investments). Previous roles also include fixed income analyst at PIMCO and work within the legal department of Franklin Templeton.
Mr. Nicholson graduated from Bishop’s University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and economics and received a Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 1993.
