Ryan McRandal currently serves as the CEO and CIO of Light Arc Capital Management. With over 24 years of investing experience, Ryan is responsible for leading the investment team, managing the firm’s portfolios with the team, directing research, trading, portfolio construction, and team development.
Prior to Light Arc, Ryan was the CIO of the One River Volatility Arbitrage subsidiary of One River Asset Management and prior Ryan served as Deputy CIO at One River Asset Management. At One River he spent 11 years building the firm’s volatility and convexity investment capabilities. Over his tenure, he co-managed or managed over $2 billion AUM. He served as Co-Portfolio Manager for One River’s award-winning Dynamic Convexity Strategy and led the volatility relative value alpha programs. Beyond investments, he played a central role in scaling the firm’s AUM, infrastructure, mentoring PMs and driving strategic initiatives.
Prior to One River, Ryan was Head of Thematic Investing at AXA Investment Managers in London, where he managed an award-winning convexity strategy. Earlier in his career, Ryan was Head of Research at Unifortune, an award-winning hedge fund boutique, and held trading roles at Swiss Re Capital Markets and WestLB in London, focusing on cross-asset derivatives.
Ryan holds a first-class honors degree in International Securities, Investment and Banking from the University of Reading’s ICMA Centre. He is a recognized thought leader and the co-author of Tail Risk Hedging: Theory and Practice (Risk Books, 2014).
